Congratulations Ursula!

Ursula Brendling, personal trainer at her company Workout Warriors celebrated her 50th birthday by taking part in Triathlon X, the world's toughest Ultra Distance Triathlon earlier this year on Saturday 25th June 2016.

She swam 2.4miles (3.8km) around the head of Windermere before tackling a 112 mile bike ride which includes over 12,000 ft (3,700m) of ascent – making it the hardest bike section of any 'iron man' event in the world. In the final phase of the triathlon, Ursula completed a 13 mile (21km) half marathon run.

As well as completing the iron man challenge, Ursula raised a fantastic £1,575 for Fix the Fells, through donations from her friends and family.

Fix the Fells is a partnership project which repairs the damage on mountain paths in the Lake District. Footpath erosion can have serious negative effects on streams and lakes, and the work to reduce the amount of soil being washed away keeps our landscape looking great and our lakes and rivers healthy.

The funds raised will be used to repair and protect the paths around Loughrigg Fell, some of the most popular routes in the Ambleside area, where Ursula lives and works. The paths are extremely popular and a great asset to the area. Work has already started, with 38 volunteer days being gifted to this project so far. Due to the popularity of the route, the work has been put on hold through July and August so that visitors can continue to use the route, but work will re-commence in September.

A team of dedicated volunteers carry out much of the work and the funds raised by Ursula will help them to maintain all of the tools that they need to do the difficult work, help to cover their expenses for travelling to the site, and will help to buy the specialist grass seed that is used to regenerate the vegetation in damaged areas.

Ursula says: “I hoped to raise £1,000 so I am so pleased that I was able to beat my target. I hope I can inspire people to take care of their health and fitness and at the same time understand that we need to take care of the Lake District too.”
