Business fundraisers have a big impact on a local project which helps children to explore their local rivers.
Local tourism businesses including The Waterhead Hotel in Ambleside, Burnside Park Hapimag in Windermere and Pure Lakes Skincare based in Staveley have all helped children to explore their local rivers as part of South Cumbria River’s Trust ‘Experience the River Project’.
Thanks to the funds raised by these businesses as part of Nurture Lakeland’s visitor giving scheme, over 100 pupils last year from 4 South Lakeland Primary schools spent 2 days exploring river habitats and learning about the wildlife they found. More children will be doing so this year.
‘The project is so important because it gives children hands on experience of working safely in a river, and all participants are amazed at the variety of life revealed in a bucket of river water! The project is highly relevant given the flooding last year’ says Philippa, project manager at South Cumbria Rivers Trust.
Sarah Dale, Acting Director of Nurture Lakeland says: ‘The businesses raise funds for Experience the River by asking their customers for small donations. It shows that small donations can add up to have a big impact. And more businesses have joined in fundraising for this project recently, including Hills of Oaks Caravan Park, Newby Bridge Country Caravan Park and Windermere Lake Cruises.’
