Groundbreaking research project up for award

We are delighted that we have been shortlisted for the Environmental & Energy Awareness Award in the CN Group Business Awards 2015 for our work on the Low Carbon Cottages project.

This groundbreaking Knowledge Transfer Partnership project between ourselves and the University of Cumbria was carried out from 2013 - 2015.

We combined the latest research in retrofitting with industry knowledge and local case studies to produce a toolkit of advice for holiday cottage owners and managers.

The project aimed to fill two gaps in current knowledge:

  • how can we improve energy efficiency of traditional  Lakeland buildings whilst being sensitive to their aesthetic and cultural value
  • how can we inspire holidaymakers to take up energy efficient behaviours without negatively impacting their holiday experience

Since completing the project, the toolkit has been downloaded by holiday cottage owners and management companies within Cumbria and across the country. We'd like to thank all of the wonderful holiday cottage owners that were interviewed, came along to focus groups, and let us monitor energy use in their buildings.

We're looking forward to meeting all of the other inspirational shortlisted businesses at the award ceremony in this Wednesday 21st October when the winners will be announced - finger crossed!

If you own a traditional building, take a look at theses sample pages from the toolkit, and don't forget to download your free copy!
