Rathbones are one of the UK’s leading providers of investment management services for individuals, charities and professional advisers. The team based in The Stables at Levens Hall look after private clients all over the North West and enjoy being involved in local charitable initiatives.
On the 15th September, a team from their Kendal office took on the team challenge of climbing 15 peaks in the Lake District including Helvellyn, the third highest in England, in just 12 hours to raise funds for Fix the Fells.
The team raised a fantastic £910.00 which will be used to support maintenance and repair of the footpaths on our spectacular Lakeland fells.
Exped Adventure, who are also keen supporters of Fix the Fells, led the challenge and offered places at a discounted rate so that staff could focus on raising funds for their chosen cause.
The spectacular Lake District landscape is a paradise for walkers attracting 10 million visitors each year. But 10 million pairs of booted feet are not without their impact. In fact they leave a significant imprint on the surprisingly fragile mountain environment.
Erosion caused by feet (and rain!) leads to large scars developing in the landscape. Eroded paths are not only unsightly, they also lead to habitat loss, water pollution and damage to rare species in the area.
Skilled Fix the Fells craftsmen and hundreds of volunteers carry out essential repair work to rebuild and maintain the most badly eroded footpaths. It costs £50 to maintain the tools for a team of 10 volunteers for a year, and £100 to pay for the repair of just 1 metre of footpath, so donations are vital to the success of the project. Thank you Rathbones Kendal!!
