The Pint That Protects
Nurture Lakeland and Jennings Launch 'The Pint That Protects'
A very special brew is now quenching the thirst of visitors and walkers in the Lake District thanks to an innovative Visitor Giving idea devised by responsible tourism organisation, Nurture Lakeland, and Cumbrian brewer, Jennings.
'Nurture Lakeland Ale' is a tipple, differing from any other pint pulled in Cumbria, as 5 pence per pint is donated to Nurture Lakeland. This money funds vital conservation work in Cumbria carried out through Nurture Lakeland projects, leading to the ale being christened 'the pint that protects'.
The ale was launched at the Lake District National Park Visitor Centre at Brockhole, by the Chair of Nurture Lakeland, Nick Lancaster of The Langdale Estate, Jennings' Business Development Manager, Andrew McClure, the CEO of the Lake District National Park, Richard Leafe and Nurture Lakeland's Fundraising Development Officer, Ruth Kirk.
A 9-gallon cask of the ale was set up at Brockhole, to allow visitors to sample Nurture Lakeland Ale for the first time in the stunning surroundings. This is an amber ale with a 3.8% ABV and is a full bitter-tasting beer, which brings out the flavour of the malt and hops and blends these with fruity overtones.
The ale is already being stocked in nearly 30 pubs throughout the Lakes, including the Wainwrights' Inn on the Langdale Estate in Great Langdale. Other publicans, hotels and restaurant owners wishing to stock this ale and assist conservation in Cumbria should contact Andrew McClure on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Nurture Lakeland's Fundraising Development Officer, Ruth Kirk, says: "Nurture Lakeland Ale is the first drink that we have raising money for our conservation projects through a Visit Give Protect scheme. We were delighted when Jennings offered to create this fundraising ale and hope that we can encourage many hoteliers and caterers to stock this special brew".
