Claife Station Featured
Claife Station is a Victorian folly, which was used as a viewing station in the 1800's. The station is situated on the west side of Lake Windermere and access is readily available from Ash Landing car park by Ferry Nab. Over the years much of the surrounding vegetation has become so overgrown that the views from this historic site have been seriously obscured. The National Trust plan to adapt the footpath access for less able walkers. They also plan to open up views across Belle Isle to the fells beyond by removing some of the trees that have grown up.
The National Trust hope to acquire the old cottage below the station, which was the reception point for visitors to the station itself. If successful, this will be developed as both a reception point for Claife Station again and an information point for the whole of the west shore.
