'Inspire people to care for the natural environment through Responsible Tourism'

How do we achieve this?

Fundraising: Working with our members to support conservation projects across the county and protect our landscape - We call it Visit Give Protect

Campaign work: Ensuring that the environment and human activity co-exist harmoniously - We call it Sustainable Tourism

Consultancy: Sharing our ideas and helping other destinations across the UK and Europe to develop their own Visit Give Protect schemes - We call it Nurture Tourism

Visitor Giving is a simple way of inviting voluntary donations from visitors who feel inspired to put something back into looking after the places they love. We now have a membership of over 1200 individual tourism businesses and holiday cottage owners across the Lake District and Cumbria. So far we have raised over £2million to support a diverse range of projects throughout Cumbria. We have seen first hand how wildlife, the landscape and tourism activities are interlinked. We run campaigns with the goal of ensuring that the environment and human activity co-exist harmoniously. Our ‘Love Your Lakes’ project is working to improve the quality of our lakes; Our ‘Drive Less See More’ campaign encourages visitors to give their car a break by enjoying low carbon alternatives. Our Visit Give Protect Scheme is a leader one of the most successful Visitor Payback Schemes in Europe. We work with destinations, conservation agencies, National Parks and other protected landscapes to develop similar schemes across the UK and Europe. We're helping to make the tourism industry sustainable by creating ways for businesses and individuals to donate to conservation and look after their wildlife and landscape.
