Nurture Eden's Cycling Toolkit

cycle toolkit

There is little doubt that cycling is a great leisure activity - it’s free, fun, and keeps you fit and healthy! It doesn’t matter if you are 6 or 60 years old, you can still experience the joys of whizzing along a country lane soaking up the fresh air and fantastic countryside!

Our Cycle Tourism Toolkit is full of ideas on how you can fulfill your Cyclist-Friendly Promise but as a minimum consider offering:

A free water bottle refills to all cyclists

A special cyclist food and drink offer in your café, pub or restaurant

A special rate for anyone arriving at your business by bicycle

Secure cycle parking

Bike washing and maintenance facilities

The Yellow Jersey Cycle Loop

yellow jerseyThe Yellow Jersey Loop is inspired by Sir Bradley Wiggins and his 2012 Tour de France victory. The route celebrates everything that is great about cycling in Penrith and the Eden Valley by taking you on some of the most scenic and pictureseque roads in Cumbria. You’ll be treated to fantastic views across the Eden Valley and into the eastern Lake District, but most importantly this route will take you to an excellent local bike shop, a fantastic cycle café and the Strickland Arms, where you can pay homage to ‘Wiggo’s’ Yellow Jersey following his visit in September 2012. Just ask Anton Flaherty, the friendly landlord at the Strickland Arms, to tell you all about how Sir Wiggins ended up in this quiet corner of Eden!

We've created an A3 sized PDF version of the loop in a handy foldup format. Download it here
