Director
Sue joined Nurture Lakeland as Director in 2008 after running her own successful small publishing company for 5 years. Prior to this Sue spent over 15 years working in Environmental Education and Mountaineering here in the UK at the National Mountaineering Centre, Plas y Brenin, as well as leading expeditions further afield in the high mountains of Asia and South America. Having worked professionally in mountain tourism for so long, Sue now feels privileged to be working for an organisation that brings together so many key players to protect our precious mountain legacy.

Sarah Caley
Office Manager & Membership Coordinator
Sarah is Cumbrian born and bred and joined the organisation in 2003 after finishing a degree in Tourism, Leisure & Management. As Office Manager, Sarah is responsible for finance and the smooth running of the office, as well as keeping our lovely member businesses up to date and in touch.

Fundraising Development Officer
Having joined Nurture Lakeland in 2009 to manage our original Love Your Lakes campaign in the Bassenthwaite catchment, Ruth now works with businesses across Cumbria to develop Visitor Giving fundraising, and with our project beneficiaries whose vital conservation work is supported through the scheme. With a BSc (Hons) degree in Outdoor & Environmental Education, Ruth also delivers our SORCE (Sustainable Outdoor Recreational Challenge Events) project. Passionate about the natural outdoors as a place for intellectual, spiritual and emotional growth, Ruth is also Volunteer Young Ranger Leader for the Lake District National Park’s Young Ranger scheme.

Sustainable Tourism Adviser
Helen has experience in the environmental sector from previously working at Groundwork in Manchester and has a BA (Hons) in Adventure Recreation Management from St Martins College, Ambleside. She is currently studying an MSc in Responsible Tourism Management and will be sharing her knowledge with Nurture Lakeland members during events and advisory visits. Helen will also be project managing the Love Your Lakes campaign and supporting the Green Eden team with events and training.

Sophie Cade
Sustainable Development Officer
Sophie started as a volunteer for Nurture Lakeland in 2010, getting involved in many aspects of the organisation from fundraising and Love Your Lakes events to recording video interviews with members, whilst also putting her teaching background to good use by producing various educational materials.

After project managing the Visitor Travel Diaries survey for 3 months in 2011 Sophie became a full time member of the team in 2012 working on Sustainable Development.

Green Eden Project Development Officer
Anna is currently on maternity leave from Nurture Lakeland and will be working with tourism businesses such as hotels, guest houses, visitor attractions, arts and heritage, and with the district council, to develop a range of green tourism products, offers and low impact itineraries in the Eden Valley.

Chris Little
Interim Project Development Manager- Nurture Eden

Chris joined Nurture Lakeland in May 2012 to look after the Nurture Eden Project.  Chris works as a consultant and has had a career spanning the environment and tourism sectors.  In North East England he led the tourism research and development team for the Regional Tourism Network and championed projects that protected heritage, the natural environment as well as contributing to the economy. Prior to that he worked on a wide range of projects in rural development and protected landscapes with the Countryside Agency.

Cycle Tourism Development Officer
Andy recently joined Nurture Lakeland in June 2012 as a volunteer working with Sophie on the Drive Less See More campaign. In September 2012, he was successfully appointed to develop cycle tourism in the Eden Valley under the Nurture Eden project. He has a background in IT project management and recently completed an MSc in Energy and Environment at Lancaster University.

Fundraising Assistant 

Penny joined Nurture Lakeland in the summer of 2012, supporting Ruth as fundraising assistant.  Having previously worked in a variety of organisations including outdoor, travel and management training companies.  Currently working on the Visitor Giving project, producing and distributing fundraising materials. Also liaising between business members supporting the projects and the project beneficiaries.

Sustainable Tourism Project Officer - Nurture Eden

Angela is the Sustainable Tourism Project Officer for the new Destination Eden campaign. Passionate about connecting people to the local environment and inspiring them to want to look after it, she brings previous experience from working at the RSPB and in various environmental education roles. Angela puts her training in environmental interpretation to use when creating the Fresh Air Is Free Doorstep Guides in the Eden Valley, and engages accommodation providers to promote them to their guests to lower their environmental impacts and enjoy the gems on Eden’s doorstep.

 

 


 

Rhiannon Jones

Sustainable Travel Assistant (on secondment from Tadea)

rhiannon_jonesI graduated from Durham University with a degree in Modern European Languages in 2007. The following year I started working for tadea in their Carlisle office helping to deliver the contract for the Cumbria and Lancashire Energy Saving Trust advice centre as an Outreach Advisor before becoming a Project Manager a few months later. I'm currently working on tadea projects delivering employee engagement services for businesses and working with social housing providers to engage with tenants to reduce fuel poverty. I'm also taking an Open University course in travel planning.
