Nurture Tourism provides advice and consultancy on Responsible Tourism and Visitor Payback.

Nurture Tourism Ltd is a wholly owned trading subsidiary of its parent charity company, Nurture Cumbria Ltd and profit generated by Nurture Tourism is gifted back to the parent charity.

Nurture Tourism’s aim is the same as the charity’s purpose: ‘the conservation and preservation of the natural environment’.  This can be achieved, through the promotion of responsible tourism practices and the delivery of voluntary payback schemes.

In 2008 Sue took up the Directorship of Nurture Lakeland transforming the organisation into a vibrant successful project promoting responsible tourism in Cumbria and the Lake District. The last 2 years have seen unprecedented growth in both membership and activities of Nurture Lakeland. Nurture Lakeland is the winner of two internationally acclaimed awards for Responsible Tourism. In 2010 they received the award for ‘Best Destination’ from the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards and in 2011 were finalists in the prestigious ‘Tourism for Tomorrow’ award for ‘Destination Stewardship’.

Nurture Lakeland is highly regarded for its ground breaking Visitor Payback Scheme and cutting edge work in Responsible Tourism. 

As Director of Nurture Lakeland, Sue now advises other tourism destinations around the world on responsible tourism and fundraising for conservation through Nurture Lakeland’s unique fundraising scheme known as ‘Visitor Payback’

Sue has an impressive track record of over 25 years’ experience of successful project management, including: the development of a number of environmental and community initiatives in London and the South East; the creation of her own award winning small publishing business; a high profile career in mountaineering at the National Mountaineering Centre; provision of training and national awards for the MoD; and delivery of a range of strategies, funding plans, and business development services for third sector and social enterprise.

Current skillset
Coupling a strong skill set in project management and with a natural talent for development, Sue has been successful in establishing a range of projects delivering environmental, landscape and conservation benefit, including: preparation of feasibility studies, business plans, project plans and full financial projections, recruitment, induction and management of project staff, monitoring and evaluation, identification and modelling of potential revenue streams, preparation of grant applications and funding bids, and securing of both revenue and capital project funding.

Sheona provides strategic marketing consultancy to clients including: the Forestry Commission(England), Liverpool Vision, Newcastle Gateshead Initiative and The Lake District National Park. Sheona has a rare blend of public and private experience -prior to consultancy Sheona’s senior management positions included: Marketing Director for Cumbria Tourism, Director of Marketing for the BBC (Northern Regions), Commercial Manager for M&S and Education Officer in The RAF.

Current skillset
Tourism marketing, customer insight and research (business providers and visitors), branding and campaign planning and evaluation. As an approved business coach, Sheona can also provide creative facilitation and business coaching.

James was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he read history specializing in economic, cultural and social change and achieved a Double First. James is an experienced analyst of environmental and cultural issues with recent work on the economic benefits of World Heritage status praised by UNESCO as being ‘very excellent’ and ‘the seminal report on the subject’. He has recently written on this subject for UNESCO’s World Heritage Magazine. James has more than a decade’s experience of working with many high quality clients including: UNESCO, Natural England, English Heritage, Cumbria Tourism, Lake District National Park Authority, Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd (WHS), and Jurassic Coast WHS.

Current Skillset
James works with clients from across the cultural, environmental, tourism and heritage sectors to help research, develop, market and evaluate initiatives/projects to maximize the contribution of cultural, environmental and historic assets to the societies and economies in which they sit. He has worked with Nurture Lakeland on several projects including a Feasibility Study for Visitor Payback for The Arran Trust and business planning for the Green Tourism Eden Project. James is also on UNESCO's expert advisor group for Sustainable Tourism.

Bev is a respected and sought after Freelance Consultant and Executive Coach.  In over 20 years of working with both private and public sector organisations she has earned a reputation for delivering pragmatic, business focused interventions for both organisations and individuals. She brings skills that are inspirational and motivational to the organisations she works with and uses her skills as a Coach to encourage others to reach their potential to the benefit of the organisation. She prides herself on loyalty and commitment to individuals and to the organisations with whom she works. Bev works with organisations in developing the skills and knowledge of teams and individuals, facilitates workshops and provides coaching support.

Current skill set

Working with an organisation to identify strategic development objectives, business planning, mission, vision, values. Bev can Identify organisational training needs, design and deliver learning and development interventions and evaluate outcomes. Implementing and managing projects from inception to evaluation. Providing focussed and effective facilitation and coaching.

 

Administrative support and expertise is provided by the in-house Nurture Lakeland team including Visitor Payback expertise which is provided by our Grants Development Officer and marketing support from a full-time Marketing and Communications Officer.
