Preparation of a Feasibility Study and Delivery Plan for Cycle Tourism in Penrith and the Eden Valley
Nurture Lakeland wish to appoint experienced consultants to prepare a Feasibility Study for the further development of: Penrith as a ‘Cycle Hub’ and cycle tourism in the Eden Valley. The company will need to have proven practical experience in working with organisations and key stakeholders to develop cycling infrastructure and cycle tourism.

Project: Visitor Travel Diaries
Commissioned to deliver a Visitor Travel Survey to inform decisions in the delivery of the Sustainable Transport Framework for the Lake District National Park.
Results: Over 1000 surveys were carried out to establish the travel habits of overnighting visitors to the Lake District National Park. The results will be used to inform spacial planning decisions on public and sustainable transport solutions for the tourism sector.
Project: External Fundraising Strategy and Joint Working Protocol
Results: Investigation into a range of fundraising vehicles and the identification of the key opportunities most likely to provide a sustainable income stream. Development of a Joint Working Protocol for external fundraising partners.
Project: Sustainable Outdoor Recreational & Challenge Events
Results: The growth in the popularity of outdoor recreation and ‘Challenge’ events has brought with it new pressures on the landscape. Nurture Lakeland is leading on research into the environmental impacts of outdoor events and is working with the Lake District National Park, Natural England, Friends of the Lake District and the National Trust to develop a range of sustainable practices for event organisers.
Project: Vital Uplands
Nurture Lakeland worked with Natural England to investigate the barriers and constraints facing toruism businesses from participating in visitor payback. The project worked with 40 businesses in the Bassenthwaite catchment, one of three national pilot areas in the UK.
Results: Delivery of a report on the barriers and constraints preventing businesses from participating in Visitor Payback together with the identification of a suite of tourism focused solutions.
Project: A Green Eden
Results: Development of ‘A Green Eden’ Sustainable Tourism Programme, including development of Business Plan, 3 year Funding Bid to RDPE and delivery of programme
