Learn how to use marketing opportunities to sell the concept to potential participating tourism providers and attractions. Gain insights into the marketing methods used to communicate the scheme to visitors at various points of their journey. Also find out how to enjoy reciprocal PR opportunities between businesses and Visitor Giving beneficiaries.

How and Why Should Tourism give?

Experienced trainer and director of WildFell Training ltd, Bev Cavender, leads this master class to ensure delegates are able to engage tourism businesses in Visitor Giving. Ruth Kirk, Nurture Lakeland’s dedicated fundraising manager, will also be on hand to share her experiences and together Ruth and Bev will explore the various methods that enable Visitors to donate via Visitor Giving.

Workshop Cluster A

Utilising Social Media

Nurture Lakeland members have been privileged to enjoy the expertise of Zoe Dawes aka The Quirky Traveller at previous training events. Join Zoe to explore the social media world in relation to Visitor Giving. Learn about the most effective tools to put your scheme on the map and to encourage the natural take up and momentum of Visitor Giving.

The Visitor Giving Model

The director of Nurture Tourism, Sue Savege, will lead this workshop to share her experience of running a Visitor Giving organisation and the options and best practice choices available to delegates who are thinking about starting a Visitor Giving scheme. Interactive and informative, this workshop offers essential practical advice for those attendees who want to adopt Visitor Giving for the benefit of their destination.

Workshop Cluster B

Visitor Giving Technology

Technology gurus Changing Horizons have helped Nurture Lakeland utilise technology numerous times over the years. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to increase the breadth of donation methods including text gifting, mobile apps and web based donations.

How to Select Beneficiaries

Surprisingly the hardest part of Visitor Giving is deciding who to give the visitor donations to. With so many worthwhile projects in need of support, developing robust criteria will simplify and strengthen this part of the process for any destination. Representatives from Nurture Lakeland's small grants panel will share their experiences and deliver small tasks to get participants thinking about the task ahead.

Conference Programme Day Two

Enjoy the delights of the Lake District landscape by joining us on two site visits to experience Visitor Giving in action. You’ll get to meet businesses currently fundraising through Visitor Giving, gaining an insight into their experiences. This day will also enable you to visit a local project funded by Visitor Giving. The visit bus will pick delegates up at 9:30am from Low Wood Bay Hotel and lunch and refreshments are included. To make sure you can get home again (!) we can also provide transport to Oxenholme train station at 2:30pm.
